Welcome to Fifth Grade! I am so excited that I get to spend my days with three classes of fifth graders. This year is going to be full of learning and growing as individuals and classmates.

Math will occur every single day in my classroom. Since Ms. Kirkeby, Mrs. Hofer and myself are team teaching that means that I will teach all the fifth graders math! I really believe that this will be very beneficial to the students, yourselves, and also us as teachers!
Throughout the year we will be covering A LOT! The year will start of with some refresher activities then from there we will dive right into working with fractions! It will be very beneficial for the students to practice their multiplication facts while they are away from school. We do a lot of that here in fifth grade.
Here is a list of all the math units we will be learning about this year:
Unit 1: Addition and Subtraction with Fractions
Unit 2: Addition and Subtraction with Decimals
Unit 3: Multiplication and Division with Fractions
Unit 4: Multiplication with Whole Numbers and Decimals
Unit 5: Divison with Whole Numbers and Decimals
Unit 6: Operations and Word Problems
Unit 7: Algebra, Patterns, and Coordinate Graphs
Unit 8: Measurement and Geometry
The students are expected to complete, and turn-in on time, any homework assignments, quizzes, and tests that will be given throughout every unit. If a student gets a percentage of 65% or lower I will return their work to them and allow them to make corrections to receive HALF credit back on any missed questions.
Students will receive quiet a bit of assignments this school year. The students will receive time in class to work on their assignment and if they don’t get it done then they will have to take it home to finish as homework. I do always encourage the students to take any assignment that they finish in class home to get it checked over (doesn’t mean it always happens 🙂 ) I will do my best to list a simple explanation of what we do everyday. Please note that I will more than likely forget most days but I will definitely work on it!
Both of these subjects are taught by Mrs. Hofer. If you have any questions please don’t hesitate to email her at email@example.com.
Mrs. Kirkeby will focus on is Reading! If you have any questions related to reading please don’t hesitate to email her at firstname.lastname@example.org.
