Welcome! I am thrilled to begin my ninth year teaching first grade and start a new school year with all of you! First grade has so many exciting adventures throughout the year! I have been busy planning away with the other first grade teachers and am very much looking forward to getting started!
Get to know your teacher:
I am from Cut Bank, Montana and have enjoyed living in Montana my entire life. I got my Elementary Education degree from MSU-Billings and my Science Education Master’s degree from MSU-Bozeman. This is my ninth year living in Helena and I love it! Being a teacher has allowed me to explore other areas within Montana. I was able to live and work near Glacier National Park for two summer seasons. I have also lived in Bozeman for two summers. I thoroughly enjoyed exploring these locations. Hiking, camping, backpacking, kayaking, and fishing are just a few ways that I am able to see the beautiful parts of this great state!
Some things to expect in first grade:
First graders certainly work at their own pace and different areas of the curriculum come easier to one and maybe not the other. Our first grade classroom will provide a safe and comfortable learning environment for all learners! We will be learning all sorts of new reading skills that will help advance us into higher levels of reading. Math is always exciting while we learn all about addition and subtraction well into the double digits. Students will become equation experts by gathering information given in story problems or pictures, which brings first graders to another level of thinking. I also have wonderful science experiments for all students to participate in; so make sure to bring your wonder and questions! Spelling, handwriting, art and social studies are a few other areas that will be filling our days in Miss Milbrandt’s classroom. I look forward to seeing you all soon!
We will have weekly spelling tests. The first test will be on Friday, September 11. I will be emailing out a Parent Newsletter every Friday and spelling words will be included for the upcoming week. Students will also bring home a practice page each Monday so that you will have a hard copy of this list. If you would like additional practice please follow the link to some spelling games. Find the week of spelling we are in and enjoy!
